Brakes
« on: November 13, 2007, 06:16:19 PM »

The brakes on my 3.5 feel a little... soft. I guess it's all the weight etc but I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to upgrade the brakes without going completely mad. i.e. different disks - ventilated/slotted etc or calipers. Trouble is, I don't know whats needed or possible  Undecided Anyone know?

Cheers

Nick

p.s. I don't have ABS

I have a set of 3G gorrved and dimpled discs on my 2.8td.  They make a HUGE difference - cant remember exactly how much they cost - but still cheaper than oems.

The are the same size and a straight swap.  Looked round for ages for upgraded pads and couldnt find any - pads seem to last about 12months for me and am using Greenlines from Milners at the moment - seem fine.

Hope that helps - lemme know if you need dealer info on the discs.

Braided brake hoses as they give less flex than normal ones and shouldn't be too expensive

J tops come with bigger disks as standard (you carnt fit 15's over them) i know where you may be able to buy a set of Jtop wheel hubs, discs and calipers Wink

Just a note though nick, if you have your torsion bars wound up to high it could cause the front wheels to lock if you brake hard as there is less dive so the weight dosnt transfere over the wheels as it should. My brakes deffinatly feel better now i have fitted the big country torsion bars instead of the wound up standard ones.

Cheers guys.

Yes please clarky - can you give me the dealer info. Do you know if they do the replacements for the rear ones too (i.e. disks with handbrake pads inside?)

Tony, any idea which and where as I've looked before and not been able to find em?

Steve - thanks mate any idea the diameter of the lager ones so I can check which ones I've got? No probs with locking, just a bit soft  Undecided

Its only the J top that gets the big discs mate because they come with 18" rims as standard a 15" rim actualy rubs on the disc and if you tighten the wheel nuts it locks solid. I would say that the J top disc is between 10 and 20 mm bigger than a standard one

www.envyperformance.com - call rather than email and ask for Kevin ... mention me when you do pls!

Also - I tried for a while to get a set of braided lines  - they kindof do some for the shogun. but I could never get anyone to confirm if they'd fit mine.  Now with the better discs its pretty good at stopping so given up for the time being.

a good hydraulic's engineering firm will be able to make you some braided brake hoses just take your old one's to them for an exact match there is a firm near me that can do them. Afro

I think i have sourced a braided brake line kit for the paj, if it all works out there will be differant lengths available for standard and lifted ect, there will also be the centre pipe that runs to the middle of the rear diff (the one that can pull tight with articulation on the lifted trucks) They should be stainless steel braides with anodised or plain banjos/fittings and also a range of differant coloured sleeves including clear which will protect the braid.

Hopefully these will be available in the club shop before christmas but it could be a little close Wink
