race bike
« on: January 11, 2008, 07:35:32 PM »

hi everyone Smiley

i didnt realise there was such a big biker community on the forum Shocked thats the main reason why i got the pajero, to pull a trailer with all my bike stuff. i made the decision a few years ago that i was going to end up dead if i kept my road bike any more(fireblade 945) and the adition of a new family member Shocked, so after a few track days i was hooked and traded up and got a track bike. now 4 years later i want to go racing in the derby pheonix class ( apparently its the best and the hardest compeat in). so the tackle ive got now is a suzuki gsxr 1000 k4, with all the trimings. (tuned to the limit, about 169 bhp!! Afro) tyre warmers, stands etc, etc.

the pajero has not let me down once at getting me to the tracks and if any of you have been to cadwell park you will know that its in the arsehole of nowhere!! Cheesy

maybe ill  meet some of you at a trackday ( my local track is oulton park) just look out for a guy with his head in his hands because someone has just wiped him out Cry

cant be bothered with all that road bike stuff now Cry, not got the time anymore now ive got a 4yr old whos in to bikes more than me!! will be getting him a crosser in a year or so, pajero will come in very handy for that. just got to find a decent club as im not going down the route of taking him on a field. one thing that trackdays/racing have shown me is that you need an organised setup. medical facilities, marshalls, etc. not only that once he gets oldler i dont want him thinking its alright to take his bike and mates on a field and act like dicks. think id be getting visits off some not very happy parents Shocked
was thinking about getting a crosser myself, never done it before looks like a laugh Smiley Smiley

Good choice of bike  Cool. I've ridden my mates K6 and it was quick without really feeling it if you know what I mean.

I binned my ZX6R last summer at Llandow  Cry (still rideable though, but the later sessions were rained off) , and know loads who have seriously hurt themselves on the track (multiple broken bones and brain damage Sad ), so I'd say that there is just as much risk as you ride 100% of your ability on the track if you catch my drift.

CRG engine casings, crash bobbins and trackday plastics are the best thing for racing (oh and plenty of spare levers

i agree totally about the track day thing, but at least theres no 18 wheelers coming around the next corner! you can never have enough spares when trackdaying it!! a mate of mine come off under the dunlop bridge at donnington i still dont know how he did it but it was at about 135/155 mph. the bike carried on but he just shot back, amazing how leather grips tarmac!!! and the bike managed to take out 2 other riders. he wasnt popular lets put it that way!!!!

Did he run wide coming off coppice, as I found you can straighten out the double apex with the right entry line.
I found that the downside to doing trackdays on a 600 is that you end up overtaking the litre boys on the outside in the sweeping corners, and then watch them blast past once they hit the straights ad-infinitum.

no he was just going under the bridge and as you know there is a slight dip in the track, if your going quick enough the front end will rise into the air Smiley. at the time he had a rsvr millie, and the throttle kept sticking open now and again( maintence wasnt his thing Angry Angry) so he decided to touch the front brake Embarrassed. now with the front wheel in the air this isnt advisable, the front just washed out when it landed, he was only a couple of meters in front of me just off to my left. good job really or i'd of gone over his head Shocked
it was a typical last session of the day and id been riding rings around him all day. think what miffed him was the fact id rode up with the no intensions of riding the track just watching while he went round on his race bike. sun was out and i couldnt resist. silly really as i had no way of getting back if i trashed it Embarrassed so thats when the penny dropped and i got a track bike Afro
never looked back since. only problem is the weather in this country is ******* **** Angry Angry Angry

I know exactly where you mean now  Shocked, and it makes perfect sense . I lowsided at Llandow because I ran wide through a corner as it tightened up (was on the gas) rolled off the throttle, and the front just washed out Sad . Had some monster bruises from it  Shocked

There is a dip coming onto the start/finish straight at Llandow which can get the front in the air on my 600 in 3rd gear. you have to pull yourself forward over the bars to keep it down on the ground, so it must be really interesting on a litre bike  Grin

yeah it can get quite interesting sometimes, oulton park for instance. coming up to druids you go under the yokahama bridge and as your doing this, you cant see where your going Shocked your banked over to the left Shocked and your doing a wheelie to top it all off Shocked and your trying to over take aswell Afro scary but it gets the heart beating Grin i wouldnt swap it for anything in the world Afro
