Can anyone explain the difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 pinin 4wd systems , I heard the 2.0 system is a lot more advanced than my 1.8 so thinking about upgrading?

My 1.8 attivo 2 only has one gear selector lever, no 2H 2 L diff lock levers, just the one lever like a normal car, I'm told theres 1.8s and 2.0 litres that have all the trappings of the Pajeros ,

I believe the 1.8 usually has permanent four wheel drive, whereas the 2.0 has super select with all the bells and whistles.

Nope, the shogun pinin has permanent 4x4, where as the pinin has 2wheel drive, which can be change, doesnt matter what size engin. Or in my case permanent 2wheel drive, untill it goes in 4 repair in a few weeks. Jamie

2000 W reg 1.8 GLX GDI 3 door Pinin Auto
|
Seems the manual versions are constant four wheel drive. My 2000 W reg is an auto which has the "super select" options.
An additional gear lever on the driver side of the handbrake (UK) can select rear wheel drive only for normal road use. Moving it forwards selects 4wd, can be done while driving at speeds up to 60km/h apparently. High ratio difflock and low ratio difflock can only be selected while static in neutral. The selected drive option is displayed in the central panel of the instrument cluster. The driven wheels are lit up green and the central box lights up orange when difflock is selected. steering in difflock option is very restricted as all wheels have the same amount of drive.
Those with manual versions may have a blanking plate in the centre moulding near the handbrake.

I still feel Jamie may be incorrect as the shogun pinin and the Pinin are the same car! I have a Shogun Pinin ( it says so on the back of the car) and I have the super select system. It is still my belief that the 1.8 has permanent 4X4 and the 2L has the super select system. It may also have something to do with the number of doors, as 2 door variants seem to have either permanant 4X4 or super select dependant on engine size, but every 4 door i have seen has super select.
Either way it doesn't make a whole lot of difference MPG wise whichever mode you are in, 4 wheel drive is only very slightly worse than 2. I tend to stick mine in 4H if its wet or 4HLc if very icy or deep snow. I have been known to change mode at 50 MPH without damage but it can be a bugger getting it back into 2H unless you stop and reverse a couple of feet.
I've just gone right through the manual and can't find any info either way so I could well be wrong!
(p.s.Some Bloke, according to the manual you can shift at speeds up to 100 Km/h, which is about 60 MPH in real money!)

Cheers Ducat, To further muddy the waters I looked up a few Pinins on Ebay and found a manual one with super select - so bang goes my theory about it only being on auto's.. I'm also told that some pinins have fold flat rear seats - but mine don't

I can't fold mine flat either. also some pinins have a large bay under the floor in the boot. All I can fit in there is a jack!

Could it be that all the 2 doors have fold flat seats and underboot storage and the 4 doors don't? Does anybody have a 4 door without super select?
