2 door, manual, and its 2 wheel drive which can be changed. So this isn't permanent 4x4. I have now got it fixed finaly, and it has never handled better. I managed to recover 2 Landrover Defenders which weight about 3.5tonne, one with a 4" lift. I pulled them out with no problem.
Well I did tie the back end of my car to a tree just for safety. Thats the 3rd Landrover I have recoved. I realy want to get a sticker, Landrover Recovery Veical, but when I get magerly stuck, the only veical cappable of recovering me is a Landrover and the beastyest 1 I ave ever seen.

Mine is a 2 litre 4 door manual. It has super select.

I understood it was down to the engine - 1.8 permanent 4x4, 2.0 switchable 4x4?

depends on the year of release - the later (post 2002) 2.0L bodies released in europe have no 2wd option, where as all 1.8's and lesser models have the 2wd option.

the russian manual that is linked to in a previous post details this.

essentially they changed gearboxes as the 2.0L did't drive like a slug in constant 4x4 and 2wd wasn't deamed nessecary

I'm glad that none of this ended up imported to australia as the general populus is still caught up in the monster USA SUV craze and the little iO didn't sell well at all, thus the disfannyinuation of the line in 2002

Could it be that all the 2 doors have fold flat seats and underboot storage and the 4 doors don't?
Does anybody have a 4 door without super select?

i have a SWB 2door 2002 2.0L manual that does not have fld flat rear seats - the headrests fold down then the seat back folds down horizontally onto the seat base but is still 3" higher than the boot floor, which has room for the jack, and a few shackles, and a rag, that's it.

Aye, my backrests will only fold flat if I take the seat base out (pretty easy to do actually - but then you have to store it Sad). I only have a small cubbyhole under the floor - fits the jack, folding shovel, first aid kit, etc but little else.
