In order of priority:
1) Good recovery points (not tie-down eyes - these will be ripped off at the first instance)
2) A decent strop rather than a rope - the strops are rated for 'lifting' and the breaking strain is usualy 6 or 7 times this amount. You can also see damage to a strop, damage to a rope cannot be seen so easily - until it breaks!
3) If you use shackles to attach the strop - again make sure they are "stamped" with the load rating in tonnes (3.25tonnes for above) - again this is lifting capacity
4) Hi-lift jack or similar
5) Mate with a winch to go with you

Certainly get items 1 -3 before you go.
Waffle boards are useful if you're intending to go rock crawling (prob not in a std LWB Paj) and can be used as traction mats in the slippy stuff.
Maybe a winch and a winch bumper.
Never go off road or laning alone.
At a new site, relax, take your time .............. see what everyone else is doing - suss out what's what first.
Start with the easy stuff - build your experience before tackling the more demanding sections; or it may well "end in tears".
Chances are, you will get stuck. You might want to consider attaching your strop to your motor and leaving the "loose end" rolled up through the passenger window - that way you haven't got to grope around in the mud trying to attach it!
Shackles - when tightening them up, always turn them 1/4 to 1/2 a turn back off from max tightness before you try and pull the vehicle along. You'll be glad you did when you come to undo them.
That's probably enough "advice" for now, just one last thing ............ most of all enjoy!
PS (and purely for micky take value) ,..... go out with a mate in a Landy
