So far so good
« on: March 10, 2008, 10:20:33 AM »

Well if you have read my last thread (Had enough of Disco's....) you will know that I was picking up our Shogun this Saturday afternoon and on the whole I am really pleased Smiley

It seems to be in the flesh a reasonbly well look after truck that in it later years was maybe not so carefully cared for, but after 2 hours of cleaning the inside it has come up really nice, the only down point is the rear carpet is completly ruined, it looks like a load of bleach has been spilt on it. Just need to finish cleaning the grey leather to get the dirt out of the grain.

Exterior looks really good with just the joints between the body and the plastic panels faded and a couple of corners damaged, the rest of the other panels are unbelivebly staight and shows no signs of dents or dings, The towbar bracet looks rusty so that needs a taking back to bare metal and a coat of black hammeright and there is a black metal panel in the front bumper that needs some attention.

The engine sounds a beast  Grin but is smooth and seems to be powerful had a little play with it and wow!

The only remaining problems that I have to sort out is the back door is a bit tempermental the handel sometimes sticks, The fuel gauge reads all sorts of funny values so not sure how much petrol it has at any one time and not to sure about the super select lights the back wheels never seem to illuminate just the front ones.

The end result is really pleased with it, both the wife and I think that the Shogun despite being older looks newer than the Disco just a bit woried about the fuel usage and the fuel gague.

I would say the bulbs on the super select lights are blown - quite common as these are lit all the time

guide on how to change dash bulbs here if you need it http://www.pajerouk.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,12198.0.html

Sounds like you got yourself a decent truck there - make sure you post some pics up soon  Afro

As CupCake says - very likely blown dash bulbs for the rear wheel lights

For the rear door - remove tool tray and the screw in the inside handle then remove lower door lining and you'll see the mechanism

There is a latch hook that hooks from underneath - that needs some teflon lube or similar   Afro

Got the back door handle freed up now, thanks for the tips Tiny Tim. The fuel gague problem is the sender unit, I had a play with earhting the connector and the gauge works fine. It looks like undoing the little nuts will be a pain. I will look to do the superselect lights this weekend. Looking at it again in daylight the interior needs another good going over, not a bad attempt first time seeing how dirty it was but I am still not happy with it. Once cleaned I will get some pictures of it done.

Does anyone have any tips for getting the dirt out of the grain in leather?

Have you tried a good leather cleaner? Autoglym is usually pretty decent

I've used baby wipes on mine before, they work well.

I did try the autoglym leather cleaning spray but it did not seem to do a great job, I do use baby wipes on our furniture at home, but being black is does not show the dirt the same. I will see what Auto Express recommends and if it works I'll let you know.

i have used TFR traffic film remover in the past to get really dirty leather clean, use a damp leather and spray the stuff straight on to the leather, when you have done them all use a good leather cream to feed the leather again( baby wipes can be used for this as long as they are non perfumed), after a couple of days apply a good leather cleaner/replenisher again and the seats should come up ok..i had red leather that went black and this brought them back to near perfect..once you have done this just keep giving them a wipe down with baby wipes or the leather wipes that can be bought.
