Alternator change
« on: May 31, 2008, 06:28:46 PM »

I have been fitting an electric fan today to Sue's 2.5 and while I had the rad out I noticed that there is a shed load of room to get at the alternator, why did I not think of removing the rad when I changed all those alt's on my car?? Angry Angry Angry

are you going to use one of the variable temp sensors to turn it on and off with an overide switch if you need it on constant for a steep climb or off for wading through water

Will use the thermostat control supplied with maybe a switch to turn it off for water, thinking of keeping the "on" temp low so that it will be on longer or sooner than usual, not sure yet will do some tests after fitting

nice job there mate and it is an idea to let the fan kick in a few degrees before its supposed to and try set it taking big steep hills into consideration or exert your truck by towing something heavy that will get the temp up,
if you set it to cope with abnormal conditions too then you have considered all instances where you need it to kick in.
i would also fit a small flashing light that you cant miss on the dash thats activated when the fan is switched off for wadeing so you cant forget to switch it back on Azn Wink

Grand idea I will do that.

Be warned just had a letter from Kenlow that a limited batch of switches have failed. They sent me a green to replace the red.

should be 30 amp relay with 27 amp wire and wot ever the recomended rating of fuse but i wouldnt go above 20 amp fuses on 27 amp wire just to be safe and know your wiring wont burn out at that and always where possible sleve the wire with some sort of trunking to protect it from rubbing etc

hope my question doesn't come across as too nieve but, as you've put in the electric fan, does this mean you do away with the fan belt and bit white fan that's usually behind the radiator?
