Help needed lumpy on start up
« on: June 28, 2008, 06:13:41 PM »

hi there im just after a bit of advice as to whats up with my truck, recently i have had the head gasket done, all work carried out propper like, but since it has come back i've had problems starting her,i have had the pump timing done,as it was out by 2 teeth  now the truck fires up loverly, but boy dont it smoke   its like a light bluey white smoke, and the truck doesnt tick over properly, very lumpy Sad  im wondering if i should have the pump seals looked at or does anyone think it could be the filters?? they havent been in long tho and i really dont want to be spending even more on the thing thanx in advance paul

Does the smoke and lumpy running clear when the truck is warm?

If so it's more likely to be glow plugs or glow plug busbar connections or the glow plug relay

if its smokeing like you say check timing again, sounds like its over fueling and when it cuts oot sucking in air, check injectors break them and then retighten

sounds like either your EGR or your fuel filter.

I'd definitely take a look at the EGR, but I think your main issue is too rich a fuel mixture. TD's tend to 'put-put' as they beat arhythmically and smoke like a mexican bandit when running too rich.
