Following the PDA losing the route I worked for ages to translate from TOR's roadbook for Saturday's run I decided a change was in order.
I already have the latest version of Memory Map - currently 5.2.7 on the laptop and have been really happy with however it won't work with the Nokia N95 I have. I have had loads of problems with the Acer N35 PDA most of which are cos it's rubbish

but it's very clear that navigating from the laptop screen is a lot easier than from a tiny PDA screen when it comes to Ordnance Survey maps at any sort of useful resolution.
So the obvious solution (especially having seen it working for Pam on Saturday) was a USB GPS receiver and the laptop.
With a bit of research I settled on the Evermore GMR-900 which although it's not the cheapest at £48 shipped (from eBAy) has a great specification and claims to even work up to 10m indoors.
Quick tip here - more than 20 channels is fairly pointless with these. There aren't that many satellites

Spend the money going for one that's better made instead.
Quality bit of kit. Well made, Works straight out of the box and picks up 9 to 10 satellites sat in the garden (better than 1m accuracy) and 5 or 6 indoors (1.5m accuracy)

We'll see how well it performs in the car but I'm expecting great things next trip
