when do you use o/d button

Just got back with our new s/h pajjy. 2.8 auto. How and when do i use o/d ...what does it do??

Think of it as a 5th gear on a manual box

It will cut in and change up at 42 mph plus so if below this leave it off really as in traffic it can be fooled and then you end up in a higher gear than you want to kick down from.

Switch off on steep hills, especially if towing and leave it off off-road.

lam afraid Tim is wrong on this one. the od switch locks the gear box in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears only, used for towing and steep hills up or down, will try to find the page in my manual.   tc greg

Nope - think you misunderstand me and misunderstand how O/D works Greg

Towing and steep hills are the last circumstances you want overdrive for ! 

Actually its a two stage process, changes up into O/D gear from 42 mphand lock torque converter about 5/10 mph after 

Oh and in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd it doesn't lock the gearbox at all but allows freewheeling which is why it can be dangerous off road.

i just leave mine in o/d.....its 42 mph & 50 mph they both kick in

Evos don't have O/D

got to agree with tim on this one as to hold the gears in an auto you use the pwr/ hold  switch

I've always used the O/D button on descents with the trailer on my 2.5 to offer some extra engine braking.
