yes everyone has their own opinion, but this is mine...... the reason i complained to the BBC is not about the topic itself but the content, the fact that it portrayed greenlaning as a passtime/hobbie taken up by careless, speding individuals who have no cosideration for the environment and other users of the lanes, but this is not the case, it has not helped the cause we are fighting to keep them open to vehicles. as you probery know about 95% of lanes are closed to all vehicles and more are closing each month, so any fuel added to the fire will just make matters worse, all we are trying to do is put our views across that we were not portrayed in the right way

If i'm going too criticise anyone, it's not people using green lanes where speeds are low and wildlife has a chance of seeking refuge to reappear when it's all clear, but the speed merchants like Clarkson that think speed and performance is everything wherever they are. The speedsters of country lanes are bad enough, road kill is everywhere, but to portray the last refuges of wild life as places of enviorenmental abuse in the name of TV entertainment is an insult to our sensibilities as a responsible viewing public.

At the risk of totally ostracizing myself i thought i would add my opinion and i am sorry if it contradicts the majority
Top Gear should always be taken with a pinch of salt, the programme is produced for entertainment purposes and it fulfills this roll perfectly, whether it is taking he micky out of caravans, the americans or offroaders and fox hunters. Jezza, hamster and may are a perfect comedy act and the fact that they also include cars is a definate bonus TG is prime time comedy and, with or without this episode, there will always be a few indivuals that have nothing better to do but complain about one thing or another. This, unfortunately, is the case in all walks of life.
This is only my opinion and I, for one, absolutely love the programme
have to agree with you here.................... just didnt have the bottle to say it first just about every motoring interest ............... no i mean any kind of interest gets shown as exaggertated or even charicatured for entertainment purposes. i cant stand most of clarksons views on many things but i have to admit the way he portrays them, even the ones i have an interest in like off roading or biking are hilarious sometimes or am i just very strange? ??

i agree, the show stepped over the line with the greenlaning showing us for what we are not. i note that most think JK is ignorant of greenlaning and the codes of conduct we follow, but this is not the case, JK does understand about lane closures and he also has real experience of greenlaning so i fail to understand why he would want to rubbish a great hobby in public. take a look at what JK had to say about this little lane (permanently closed now) http://www.topgear.com/drives/C3/AA/roadtests/05/01.html

Just for the record Mike, the bit about "individuals having nothing better to do than complain" is aimed at those poor people who make it there greatest ambition in life to write letters of complaint to anybody and everybody about anything and everything. these, i am sure, we have all had the misfortune to have encountered at some point or other and is ,no where near a criticism of any forum members.
I think that my opinion comes from the assumption that Top Gear viewers are graced with enough intelligence to be able to differentiate between the realities of greenlaning and the fictional portrayall from the likes of JC.
I would never assume that my opinions are either right or wrong, they are just MY opinions.
I never thought that I would agree with a womans thoughts but in this instance you are probably right. I can understand the indignation of a lot of our members over this issue and it doesn't portray us in a good light but at the end of the day anyone watching that programme andwho knows anything about our lifestyle knows that we do not treat the countrside like that and the minority who think we do don't carry any weight anyway

Trouble is that complaining makes the matter worse. They will never apologise and mean it. I can just hear his apology now.... "apparently last weeks show caused quite an uproar amongst the greenlaners community, who are demanding an apology.... So, I'd just like to say to the murdering scurge.... B*gger off!" or some such witty comments. Nick

He might yet ...
Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Top Gear' on 20 July.
We acknowledge you felt 'Green Laning' was misrepresented and have raised your concerns with the production team.
The item was described as a task to see if they could combine greenlining with fox hunting.
The programme has to have a degree of dramatic licence and it was within the usual remit of the programme to inform and entertain.
Please be assured, however, that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Regards

I am well happy with Clarky, he gave me a platform to have a good moan , and also gave us a chance to say how we see ourselves as a positive national pastime. Perhaps it needs people like him to show the bad side of off roading for the majority of off roaders to object and be able to state our views. I'm sure our concerns have been noted, and maybe he will doing a programme soon of the joys of negotiating mud climbs, articulation, etc. etc. and i wil be glued to the screen looking for a bit of technical interest, not just one to three naughty boys running amok
