pinin abs
« on: July 22, 2008, 09:36:26 PM »

i do a lot of my driving on single track roads. Normal road surface in the middle of the road, but along the edges gravel or earth.
The problem comes when i have to move over to the side when another car comes from the opposite direction.
The gravel under the left two wheels acts like marbles and If i need to use the brakes the abs kicks in and i loose all braking.

Does anyone know if this is normal on pinins?  on normal roads in all weather the brakes are fine.

Never heard of that problem before, ABS works on normal roads as well. I would get it into a garage.

just feels like normal abs.
brakes and abs work well in all other conditions as long as both sides of the car are on simaler surfaces.

i was thinking the abs wasn't smart enough to cope with 2 different road conditions at the same time.

Has any else tried firm braking with 1 side of the car on grass and the other on road?

Just went and tried this on the loacl sport field.  Azn

60kms/h one side on a concrete footpath, other side on grass and smash brakes hard:
abs kicked in and braking was almost nil.

my guess is that this is normal as if the abs braked hard with the wheels on the cement then the car would tend to want to spin, and this isn't safe.

I posted a link to a pinin manual - it might detail it in there
