long-range fuel tank

Hi Guys,

dropped my tank out last weekend in prep to having a long range (120L-ish) tank fabricated.

It might not be so much of a problem in the UK - but some roads here in OZ don't have fuel stations for a good 600km's. Not to mention that the fuel prices can go up about 40% once you are out of a metropolitain area, (along with no 98octane fuel). Looking at doing the simpson dessert next year so it would be good to make it on one tank instead of 1 tank + 3 jerry's.

Tank is being fabricated from alluminium coated steel and will be more of a "squared off wedge" shape, not any lower than standard, but extending forward in the shadow of the prop shaft to just behind the transfer box as well as wedging back up above the rear axle.

will post up pics and i'll crate a stancil of the tank shape / dimensions etc incase you guys want to get one fabricated up over there

That would be great mate. I was thinking eventualy making a spaire tank to fit behind the rear seats, but then I would loose all of the little amount of space I have, including where the jack goes. Jamie

Oddly I enough I spotted a red and silver Pinin in Durham the other week, I noticed his spare was mounted on the roof, just behind a short roofbox,So I asked the guy Why ?    He showed my a beautiful heavy duty stainless steel round extra fuel tank where the spare used to live  the steel tank itself was protected by a panel of heavy stainless steel mesh.  It was used to top up the main tank by way of a hand operated  tap in the boot area, The guy apparently was pissed offwith having jery cans nicked off a rack he used to have mounted on the towbar.  He likes the extra fuel when he goes into eastern Europe where the quality in some places is dodgy.

the fabricator is turning out to be a tool - i'm taking my business elsewhere.

I'm on the lookout for a stock tank from an iO so i can copy the pump/filler flanges without needing to drop mine out each time but i have yet to find a wrecker that has even HEARD of an iO, let alone wrecked one!!
