I have the chance of a LWB Exceed 2.8 but it has a head gasket problem.
So, has anyone had this?
How much should it cost ?
or
should I walk away ?
Answers ASAP as I have first refusal !
Thanks
Boyo

As Jas says m8 all depends how cheap it is, your probably better off getting it to strip and sell the bits rather than spending a lot of money on it to fix and sell on with the market the way it is at the moment

It's an L-Plate (not mint) but not a dog by anymeans. Has a rear locker, leather, Chrome A bar and yellow Mitsi spots. Long MoT and new tyres on good rims. £400.
I have driven it, and power steering is the lightest I have ever driven. It had a stuck on center diff lock light, but drove ok. It didn't overheat, but it has been running veg oil. I didnt take it far. After reading some of the posts, I am going to take a chance.
I think I will clear the cooling system, replace the cap, then change the waterpump and belts.
fingers crossed, as I dont want to pay for hot and cold pressure testing as well as loads of head gaskets.
If it comes to it, I will break it and weigh in the rest.
p.s. will a 2.8's autobox fit on a 2.5?
Cheers

so
collect said Pajero tonight.....
need help !
When we started the engine from cold, and open the rad cap, there were bubbles of air present. Within 2 minutes, I could no longer see any bubbles.
After a 5 mile drive, it did not overheat. I then drove it up a steep hill, and pulled over to take a look.
Sure enough, the expansion bottle was getting full of hot water.
However, on feeling the radiator, the right hand side was hot (not boiling) and the left had side was much colder.
Is this a sign of a blocked radiator?
Should I buy a new rad?
I have ordered a new cap from e-bay.
Any idea's
much appreciated

it could be well be a blocked radiator, make sure the radiator cap is the right one, as this can also cause system to presurize,

can it be unblocked?
or should I buy a new one from start?
I am really hoping that it's not a head gasket or a damaged head.
There is no white smoke or water in the oil.
but I don't understand how one half of the radiator is MUCH hotter than the other.

Take the radiator out and flush with water and rad flush
A flush with water should give you an idea how blocked it is by the time it takes to come out the bottom hose connector

The water pump looked ok, but I thought it would be, got the rad off, washed it all out and tested the thermostat and that opened up nicely in hot water.
Parts should arrive Wednesday.
Here it is

Parts arrived and duely fitted in the thunderstorm !
Is it nomal for an old OEM rad to weigh about 3 times heavier than the new one?
anyway all fitted.
Filled with water, test drove. the expansion bottle put about an inch of water in after 20 mins run up and down the hills, but no sign of the previous problems of seriously overpressuring the water system..
Looks good at the moment, and the garage is going to pressure test the cooling system tomorrow for a definative thumbs up !
Thanks for the support
fingers firmly crossed !!!
