Pause when starting...
« on: August 10, 2008, 08:02:48 PM »

Here's one for you...

When I go to start my '95 3.5 there is a slight pause from when the key is turned until the starter motor kicks in. I'm only talking half a second, but it is worse if I haven't started it for a while. A couple of weeks ago, after not starting it for over a week it refused to connect at all. I removed the starter, cleaned it all up (I do off-road, so lots of muck involved) and put it back with no difference. So I bought a new starter motor and fitted that, but that too is no different  Sad

Any ideas? Someone suggested there may be a relay somewhere?

Thanks

Dunno if it's connected but the GDIs have an engine check light and you are supposed to wait for this to go out before turning the key to start.

There will undoubatably be a relay for the solenoid and I would expect it to be near the battery and fuse box.

Hi, if it's an auto it could be a fault with the gear select switch, does it pause in N and P,or it could be the contacts in the ignition switch, or on a manual there is a relay under the dash near the radio, the I/P is instrument panel (dash board)

Thanks guys....

@Tim - Don't think its that cos it didn't used to do it and I haven't got a light  Undecided

@Will - When it refused before I tried wiggling the selector lever and tried it in N and P with no difference  Sad

@Dragon - It's got a Clifford alarm and auto start, so I don't think its that.

Is there a ECU in the footwell on a 3.5? Could it be that?
