turbo rebuild kits...
« on: August 18, 2008, 02:00:04 PM »

Hi guys..
My turbo is leaking bad and has bad shaft play, I am now running with out the turbo.. my question is, has anyone tried the td04 rebuild kits on ebay? are they good? I plan to order the kit as well as a new compressor and exhaust wheel from ebay...

Personally, I think you are better off getting a complete cartridge if your turbo is knackered. Cartridges are about £500.00 (I know that's pricey) and are pre-assembled and balanced. Your turbo spools up to about 155,000rpm and if you don't rebuild it with mind withering precision, you are just buying yourself more pain.

The turbo is quite literally the lungs of your engine, it just isn't worth messing with in my opinion.

Beware cos the 2.5 turbo needs re-machining to accept the cartridge kits that are available
