hey there just joined the site and its been really helpful twice in two days.can anyone suggest why ther might be a rumble throughout the whole car at about 50 - 60mph although nothong shakes.i have a mk2 2.5 diesel lwb import 1993.many thanks...forse

Is this just happening at that particular road speed or similar revs in other gears ?
And does same happen is 2 WD and 4 WD ?

could be a knackered transfer box mount - mine was similar and and was worse when slowing down from speed to about 40. Changing that cured it.

could it also be depending on what tyres you have on ! my bfg a/t's tend to make a rumbling sound between that speed but 65 & over it disappears

If it was the inner driveshaft or needle roller bearings there would be up and down play in the driveshaft behind the suspension upright
These also tend to rattle a lot over numps.

thanks for all your help and advice.will get a few of them checked out...top stuff.just took it away for a week with the caravan and only done it a few times...

When you say rumble, does it come from the front of the car and sound as if you have something stuck in the air vents? if so run some silicon sealant under the windscreen trim as this causes a nasty noise at 50-60mph
|

It could also be coming from the rear differential. Any idea when the axle lubricant was last replaced?

Check your rear propshaft uj's aswell, ive gone through two props on mine, same symptoms and just replaced the prop with one from a scrappys, mines starting to do it now again so im going to have this one refurbished instead of buying one in an unknown condition.
