Anyone know if a simple removeable drop bar ball would do for towing a small tear drop caravan of 583 kg unladen and max 1,000 kg loaded ?

Summat like this ...


As I dont want a ground anchor permamnently fixed to me car  Wink

You can get fitted removable swankneck tow balls, but a bit pricey methinks!!!

tow bar from towsure fits close in and a drop plate from a caravan shop will cos £7.50, pulls my van ok and is only 2 bolts!

Mmmm there's close in...

Then there's dented fuel tanks  Grin

Was thinking more of the thing that bolts to the recovery loop with 4 bolts - then comes off completely

Ademade on up from a drop plate bought from towsure, the recovery point is rated for a ton I think, so a plate about 5mm thick and drilled to suit would be ok

Btw - with the Jtop have a real good look for rust everywhere rain could end up

Like the bottom of the doors, rear wings, rear door etc

I've got a similar drop bar to the one in pikeys picture but mine looks considerably stronger.I pulled my swift up one realy big hill in Devon last week without any probs.Some people say it's not safe to tow off the recovery point though.I will put a couple of pics on tonight
