Mark1 3,2 Di-D transplant project
« on: August 23, 2006, 10:23:36 AM »

Have to brag a bit about my Pajero.

I did a 3,2 Di-D transplant and anybody interested can see the project, which was documented on our local (South African) forum:

I hope you take it as a compliment, not theft.

Yes, the 3,2 in a Mk1 makes for one fast Pajero!

Ok, I sent a PM to 4ePajero, spammers crashed the 4xForum, and he lost the hole thread...... so there went a lot of info that would've been big help for a big group Angry

Sorry guys, for being absent without leave for so long!

Yes, as I explained to Tim in a PM, the site where the project was posted was lost due to spam attack.

I have all the photographs of the transplant on my computer, but the major loss is the text comments and explanations that went with the photos.

The thread ran for more than a year and everything was added bit by bit, which makes it easy.

Maybe I should start compiling a "Completion Report" and ask Tim to host it here.

I would suggest the headings for such a report to consist of at least the following:

  • new drive train source
  • body lift
  • interior
  • mountings
  • peripherals
  • drive shafts
  • engine modifications
  • clutch
  • intercooler
  • cooling
  • oil cooler
  • electrics & electronics

Please add any items you think would be interesting / valuable.

Status report:

The Gen1 Di-D has now been running for approx. 1 year and I had a lot of pleasure from it, and only one major mishap, which I will document in the report (a major turbo failure, not because of the transplant, but a small defect in manufacturing).

The car is an absolute joy to drive, but due to the masses of torque available, I want to change the gearing. The 1:4.88 diff ratios at to "short" and I would dearly like 1:4.2 or 1:4.1 C&P sets (any offers?)

Somebody asked about speed and stability. I don't use the Pajero to race with and seldom exceed 120 km/h (although it easily could). Stability is as with original.

Here are some pics in the mean time:

I reckon we should host this as normal HTML pages and link in to these rather than post in the forum itself.

That's going to be the way forward for a number of forthcoming 'how to' & tech articles.

Its easier to index permanently, loads more flexible, and not subjest to any changes or problems with forum software.

I'm quite happy to work with you in putting text and pics into our standard page format.
