Hi Kev, what I am looking for is a good site within about a four hour drive from Cork or even one within the Cork area

A 4hour drive from Cork would probably take you anywhere on the Island, I've have only been to Cork once and don't know too much about the west. Some beautiful scenery around the Cork & Kerry mountains I think you can still swim with the dolphin in Dingle Bay. The Irish Tourism board is very good and so is the Guinness. Where my folks come from Wexford/Waterford & Kilkenny is called the "sunny south east" but you can generally reckon that the weather is about 8-10 degress cooler than the London/South east averages. The folks are not anti-British so no worries on that score. The locals drive like loonies The food is great - just like it used to be over here, before preservatives and "e"s Ham, beef, eggs, chicken & tatties - you name it - just tastes great

We did the ring of kerry driving a couple of years back - camping.
The ring of kerry campsite is a cracker - been on the go since the 20s and the sites perfect.
Also stayed in Kinsale - campsite there another cracker
... only issue at all was that the touring map didnt cover most of the local roads...

Kev, I often used to go to Kilkenny to visit friends who were out on the Johnswell Rd. Spent a lot of time to in and around the town itself, really nice place. I also took plenty of scenic drives all round southern Ireland.

We have actually just been talking about the next trip back there, sometime in the summer. (summer in the loose sense of the word-not meaning hot & sunny ) We have got to go this year, missed last year cos of illness, but I feel the need to revisit the land of my birth

Kev, Is the Black cat pub still there next to Kilkenny Castle by the bridge? Spent many a night in there and Logans after we had finished work erecting hay barns etc.

Two years since I been there but there is always a pubwithin spitting distance in that town
I prefer the quiet ones where you can have a sup. (or two)
