Off Road Tires for an EVO ? and a mad Air filter
« on: November 14, 2006, 04:34:50 PM »

Hello There, Fellow Pajero People.

As a few of u may know i am now the pround owner of an EVO 4x4 in a Manual box ver.
I took it out the weekend on some local green lanes.
Very impressed but the tires let it down.
I am also into serious offroading, and have 2 fully kitted out Suzuki's
But Dont really want to Wreck the Evo on the offroading scene.
But need a bit more grip for some of the parts on the local Green lanes.
Its got 17" 285/60 on it now but road use only really speaking ?
Around 31" high, what is the Bigest overall Diameter/Height that will go on them with no mods ?
I have been looking around for some good tyres and wheels to swap over when taking the beast off road/green laning.
http://www.sowdentyres.co.uk/index.html
for a set of 16" rims with anacondas fitted. ?
I have Anacondas on 1 of my Suzukis, and they are a good tyre, I have Aligators on the other - But they are lethal on the road
Any of you people had any experiance with chunky tyres on the evo ?.
Also There a few of you guys done some performance mods on the EVO- namely the air filtration etc?
Any help on this side would be well appriciated.
Ps i have had a copy of the Translated into English EVO owners handbook from a firm in NEW ZEALAND- I will scan in the pages and make available if anybody wants it.
Cheers and all the best
Ryan

Did a powerflow exhaust including new cat  on Tiggsys with a Unifilter Rampod induction kit. Standars size tyres are 265/70 16 and Isuzu Trooper Steel wheels do the job fine.

Mine's standard b ut I'm planning a Blitz induction kit

Re the tyres I would GUESS 31 x 10.5 All Terrains would work well but to be honest I wouldn't want to compromise road grip  Wink

Dont forget that the Blitz type filter should not be used off road as it can get soaked the Unifilter is best if you are off roading.

Blitz! Now theres a name i've not heard for a while! Ready for a story children?? lol!

I had - i add when they were quite rare - an evo 2 (lancer!) Which was fast as! And when things are that fast its human nature to make them faster! So i bought for something like 600 quid back then, a blitz ECU!

Fitted it, tested it, well it wasn't exactly an improvement! So i called blitz and spoke to this absolute nutter, who gave me the following intructions....." Thrash the obletives out of it for 500 miles. The faster you drive the quicker it will be! It teaches itself"   .....so i did!

And my god did it work! I'd floor ir, get pressed back into the seat with my feet leaving the throttle, and you know those little speckles you get in you eyes before you pass out? lol! It was quick! I like blitz!
