Funny Noises
« on: February 01, 2006, 01:52:00 PM »

When i start the shogun up firstly there is a noise that sounds as if the starter motor continues to spoin for a second after engine has started and makes a horrible grinding noise - can this be rectified or does i need a new starter motor? Also this happens even if i try to start it but engine doesnt acutally start if you know what i mean!

Also there seems to be a whining much like gearbox or diff whine in 2wd whilst going along, any ideas???

Also there is a squeaking noise from the right front maybe as i turn left, any ideas??

Cheers
Matt

re the starter pullit ut n give it a good clean its the the bendix sticking  Cheesy
re the whine is yours fitted with locking diff if so they all seam to wine a little try changing rear diff oil, as for the squeking its prob yer bottem ball joints so get the grease gun out n get it on all the grease nipples under the motor, will make it nice n quiet , if the squeking is fron inside the motor its yer seat base

Matt check the Oil, never assume its okay based on paperwork, get it checked, or better still replaced with right grade and do the engine oil whilst your at it. It has been known for dishonest people to polish the oil filter so it looks new, and top up the oil with any old grade. better safe than sorry!. dont rely on dealer stamps either, unless reciepts are there to back it up.

With your luck with cars Matt, I'd be inclined to change all the fluids and plugs, just to make sure! Cool

Worth changing all oils and filters with a second hand motor Matt cos you can never be sure.

As Sonic says - starter noise is the bendix sticking but you can always check the ring gear through the inspection panel in the bell housing to be sure thats not damaged.

Squeak sounds like lower ball joint and grease will probably cure it.

deffo check the oil, dont trust a service stamp, i had a gearbox fitted on my XR4x4 and it packed up about 3 days later, they were very red faced explaining to me that they had forgoten to put oil in my nice new gearbox, still the looked after me Grin
