Hi All ( i've been keeping my head down being very busy setting my new business up, and now have very limited access to the net in work - real job ) To add a further note to this subject, I fitted a HID kit I got off Ebay to the Xantia this evening as its being used as a high mileage commuter on country lanes for the foreseable future. It takes H1 bulbs (single filament) took about 30 minutes to fit the one side, and about 15 minutes to do the 2nd (once I'd figured how to sort it and what to drill) It is a very easy kit to fit and is truely plug and play with the HID kits loom plugging directly into the existing cars wires on spade connectors (idiot proof) Here is a pic of the kit with one HID bulb in and one off the shelf Halfords Xenon 50% brighter bulb (or so they say) I have been driving the unlit lanes with the fogs on to light the verge - to give a better guide as others approach (as you do), but I was getting a fair few drivers flash me for doing this. These HID bulbs are so bright that the fogs are now unneccessary and you can barely see them on the road when you turn them on, and the high beam is hardly worth bothering with as the low beam HID setup is just so bright. I didnt get one driver flash me coming the other way either but the Xantia has self levelling suspension so the will always be set up right. Agree about the criticism about HID lights being eye wateringly bright if set up wrong, and as I understand it all brand new cars sold up with them must have self leveling headlights. My kit cost me £70 inc postage from Hong Kong (TNT) and it took a week as I ordered it on New years eve. I would like to get a set for the Pajero, but they are a bit more expensive as they are dual beam kits on a H4 setup with a moving shroud to give both high and low beam patterns. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-BI-XENON-CONVERSION-KIT-DUAL-BEAM-H13-H4-9004-9007_W0QQitemZ280067506923QQihZ018QQcategoryZ36476QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohostingThey will give discounts for group buys and also multiple orders come cheaper due to the deal which the vendor does their P&P, but this would have to be discussed with them to cut the best deal depending on numbers....... This is a pic taken this evening as I was fitting it, guess which side is the new bulb Ash

i ask this as i'm fitting h1 fogs and h4 high/low today in normal headlights, this is illegal so i've heard, unless you can stop the glare, the 7" projectors are about $1000=650-£700 for a pair !!, the are made by sylvena or some word like that

Hi, They are a bit of a grey area regarding the MOT (excuse the pun)
The law regarding them being in self leveling units as I understand it is only in reference to 'BRAND NEW CARS' and not to the vintage the rest of us use. As they only consume 35 watts each, then they are still within the law regarding rating, but I've yet to see a MOT station dig any bulb out to examine its rating or use any device to measure its output. I understand that they only measure alignment.
