As Tim says really. You can get a decent 2nd hand one for about £300 - 400 depending on condition. Have a look here http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/index.php in the for sale section. They crop up fairly regularly. 


Be aware though that different rifles suit different people. Always best to try as many as you can before you buy. Best thing to do is get down to a local air gun club. Most members will be more than happy to let you try out their kit.

I was coached by an olympic rapid fire and free pistol shot ...

"The key to pistol shooting is positioning your finger on the trigger so its pulled back in a dead straight line to your stronger eye".

Much more important with a pistol than with a rifle.

Also many focus on the wrong thing - you want the foresight not target in focus.

Its really worth starting with the one handed 'heavy breathing' technique raising pistol off a bench  for pistol cos if you can master this developing to other styles is easy(ish)

Damn right they do, not really the right sort of pistol for serious target shooting. lacks balance. But I seemed to get to a reasonable stage with accuracy and then it was like 'thats it, thats as good as you get' So I gave in gracefully.

indeed tim is quite right here. the sight picture you need to have is, rear sight out of focus, front sight in focus, target out of focus. adjust your sights so that when hitting dead centre, the two out of focus rear sight posts and the in focus front sight tops are level, and the front sight is dead centre between the rear sight posts. point of aim should be sitting on top of the front sight post. with practice this happens automatically, and you aquire this sight picture every time you aim, no matter how quickly this is.

now add breathing, a few standard breaths in and out, and then hold on the out breath when aiming/firing. dont hold this too long as the sight picture will be lost as the weapon begins to waver.

combining these two things, and lots of dry fire practice will give you a fair accuracy on most weapons up to 15-25 yds

of course, 10 yds or less, point and shoot works fairly well with surprising accuracy, as long as you dont think about it first. you should be able to achive 'kills' regularly on turning targets this way.

one small point. its a good habit with air weapons to 'hold' the weapon on target for a moment after firing, as the muzzel velocity is much slower than a firearm, and moving the barrel too soon will mean you will miss your target. also, be aware that if the air weapon is spring driven, that the movement of the spring is before the pellet has left the barrel.
