Elizabeths boyfriend Mikey came round...I am vindicated..everything was in the right place. He thinks it is the box of tricks on the tower where the power supply plugs in.

Now just need to get it tested and Mikey said if I find out what is broken and get the parts he will fix it for me.

Hi most likely to be your PSU (Power supply unit) as Mikey pointed out and these are easily changed as in remove the old one and install the new one theres no programs or drivers needed just a screwdriver  Wink

The PSU is easily identified as this is what the mains cable plugs into, mostly found at the top rear of the machine, unplug the computer, you will need to identify the access panel (side panel) most likely the left panel as you look at the front of the computer, remove panel and find PSU, there may be screws into the PSU from the back of the comp or there might be screws retaining it from the inside, there will also be a connector from the PSU to the computer its a case of unpluging and removing the screws holding the PSU in place. The PSU looks like a box with one or more fans on it approx 5" wide 3" deep and  6" long when replacing it be aware there are different wattages depending on the power requirements of your machine I run a 600 watt because I have a high end grafhics and sound card and duo core and water cooling so depending on your machine possibly a 400 watt or 450 watt would run a reasoable machine if this aint any help PM me and I will pass on my number and talk you through it  Grin as im home now and the Shogun is ready for its MOT on Friday  Smiley

Thanks for your help Smiley

I spoke to an IT guy in work, and he said the symptoms are in line with the power unit failing and not to bother getting it tested.

Good luck with your MOT Smiley
