I bought mine in Japan in Aug 2003 and imported it through Southampton. It is a Sept 97 car and it had then covered 30,000km - it was in superb condition. It arrived in October that year and then went through the changes to meet UK spec for reg inc the SVA test (prior to ESVA/SVA rule changes in April 2004!!!). I've used the car on & off-road (2 sets wheels/tyres) - fantastic to say the least; and had no problems (until recently stolen! - still being repaired and hope to get it back within 2 weeks). The car now has 80,000km under its belt. http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/17470/Pics of the car in Japan: [attachment deleted by admin]

Our purchasing location was not as glamorous as Japan.......... we bought it from a prestige dealer in Sfannyhorpe of all places!! It was in the showroom like an overgrown toy amongst Ferraris and Porches etc!! We are the 2nd UK owners, the 1st bought it from Japan. If I haven't mentioned already... it is now for sale due to needing a motox race truck!

My EVO was imported from Japan in 2003 with 30,000 km on odometer, and had to be converted to left-hand drive for our streets. Dashboard was replaced. Wirings redone. Steering column and gear box moved from right to left. In all other respects, its the same vehicle and runs like it too.

That's a very interesting conversion and a great vehicle; well done on even attempting it.

thanks guys, it's nice to know there are evo owners i can relate with, even if they're halfway around the world. the conversion was tricky but i felt it could be done because the dakar evos were left hand drive based on the fotos i had seen. a mechanic on vacation in manila helped a great deal. he works with ralliart in macau and has had experience preparing some dakar pajevos. that's what he said anyway. i really enjoy driving my evo, just like you guys.

That has certainly put me off going back there agian Ash!! Nice car Kibitzer. Have you managed to still retain a carbon effect dash or have you had to get a complete new/different one?

At the moment, it's got a new black piece pajeros use. A bit of modification is needed to retain the original carbon effect dash, and once done will be reinstalled to stay faithful to original spec. I must've used the word faithful because it's valentines today
