Happened to ours and someone else I know ended up with full engine rebuild as the bottom end went very soon after........£3000 - £4000 for rebuild depending where you are and how much damage you did. Ours went at just about 100mph ended with bent crank

With reference to the engine rattle and eventual rebuild was it ever established what caused the problem and how did the early symptoms show themselves. Mine so far does not rattle I change the oil regularly using mega quality Silkolene but wonder if this is another pitman arm type failure with the Evo. Not that i'm panicking much!

Interesting reading - Kinnda bears out what I was told about the 'Ralliart vehicles' (Evo & Lancer Evo) service intervals being shorter than for standard cars.
There's always cars around that have not been serviced properly and its dammed difficult if not impossible to spot em.
But then again, even if you think you are servicing properly, stick to the standard service intervals and you could have a problem.
Hence the cam belt needing changing at 45,000 miles NOT 54,000 miles
I will try and get a full Ralliart schedule from Kingswood next week.

BrOOn1e did the garage that re-built yours say that lack of oil or old oil starved the big ends etc from proper lubrication? and did you actually see the components they replaced or get an engineers report? The reason I would like to know is generally Mitsubishi are so well engineered I'd have thought you would have to drive around for months with very little or no oil before you would do that sort of damage.

got both reports and to see components, bit of both I would say lack oil and not serviced regular enough. Because Tiggsy disnae do too much mileage I change oil every 6 months
