Used to do a bit in my 'yoof' well you would, living on an Island. I had a resurgence of interest in my mid thirties, bought all new gear - about £300 worth. went out with my brother one cold January evening. Sat on a freezing cold pier for 4 hours and caught jack sh*t. HE caught a 18lb cod. Sold my gear the following week.

guys guys never say die (unless its of hypothermia in the winter while cod fishing ) sea fishing is one of the best ways to get away for a few hours and i guarantee the wife wont want to come with you, she wont want to smell of all the old fish and worm bait that you use

Mine were all caught with ragworm on a ledger in the River Barrow estuary about 10 miles up from the open sea in S.E. Ireland Great sporting fish to catch as well.
Called salmon bass by the locals in Ireland.

Well just outside that particular estuary last month saw two trawlers go down. one with 5 men lost and the other 2 men lost
They call that area the graveyard of a 1000 ships.

Its well rugged off the rocks down that way. By "The Hook" lighthouse.. Its my favourite place in the whole world. Fishing for - conger, wrasse, mackerel off a light tackle, bass, pollack, mullet, dogs I even saw a basking shark when I was a kid over there must have been 20 feet long. Scary when in a boat the same size as it. http://www.thehook-wexford.com/

I went out from Brid once, 10 hour trip, started my own ground-baiting before we even got out harbour. .... NEVER AGAIN!
