Evo service intervals
« on: February 22, 2007, 02:48:12 PM »

Be aware that the the Evo is not subject to the usual Mitsubishi service guidelines but to Ralliart guidelines.

Oil and filter change is 4,500 miles (7,242 km) or 6 months

Most important is cam belt change is at 45,000 miles (72,420 km)

Apprarently the full Ralliart spec for the Evo  is no longer available to UK dealers but these were the main points.

Well I guess thats why a few Evos have had engine problems. I am a bit of fanatic with my cars and always use the highest quality oil Silkolene Pro S ester based synthetic in both the Evo and my Lotus but to change it every six months seems a bit over the top.

Don't forget the auto tip box oil.

I had a problem with my auto tip box last week  so i took it into mitsi garage ralli art dealer. they had a look and drive and told me to take it to a automatic transmission  specialist. So last friday i took it to a specialist  they had it for two hours and they came to the same thing some thing broke in the box . So i left it with them to take the box out and strip down to what was the problem.

I got a phone call this afternoon the box is out and stripped down. Inside the box was full of dedris  both of the cluches have started to break down and th clcuch in the torque covertor has done the same. so it needs a new torque convertor  and a full rebuild
So it it going to cost me £ 1600.00 + vat to get it re built  or £ 5000.00 + vat for a new one from mitsi.

 Hi Tim

Sorry i don't

I had mine changed  when i baught it three years ago by mitsi dealer. And i changed it last week hoping i would fix my problem.

It is not a cheap job to do your self either. Mitsi don't sell the oil in litre or five litre bottles you have to buy a 20 litre drum wich is
£ 148.05 inc vat.

By the way that evo of yours would of been mine but Brendan beat me to it  Smiley

Mines coming up to 76000 miles so I am going to do the gearbox oil sometime soon is there also a filter that has to be changed and if so does anyone have the part numbers for the oil and gearbox oil filter. Also some time ago there was a post about an exhaust company in Wiltshire somewhere who do specially fabricated exhaustas I'm thinking of putting a Skyline type twin system on mine to by-pass the cat on one side so perhaps as a party piece at my local Lotus owners group I could entertain everyone with flames coming out! I have decided not to go the full Paris-Dakar livery on mine as the wife said she wont step foot in it looking like that (pity really)

I'm planning on dropping the Beast of at a local dealers in Sept while I'm on hols for a couple of weeks to do a full service and MOT. They are not a Mitsi dealer, but rather an independent garage that deal with Mitsi's.

I am sure there is lots of special guidance about oil etc on the forum, but if anyone feels inclined to enlighten me now I can print off the info and put it away to give to the garage later this year.

Next silly question from a non-mechanical person is where is the ATF oil put in, what oil is used and is there some sort of dip stick to check it??

ATF goes in down the dipstick tube and the procedure for checking level is a bit tricky

The dipstick has cold and warm marks and obviosly when initally filled you can only go by the cold marks.

But to be sure check on the warm marks after cycling the selector through the gears with engine running.

Correct spec is total 9.3 litres but the owner's manual only says 'Mitsi specified brand' I'm afraid and I have no idea what's in mine

ATF goes down the dipstick tube EH? Don't get it? Sorry if I'm being a bit dippy, but isn't that the engine oil?

You have 2 dipstick tubes - front is for engine oil and rear is for the transmission

have you actually looked under your bonnet yet ?   Cheesy  Grin

That's right

Tip - get ATF with long flexible spout

As toi which one ?   manula for the normal 3.5 just says ATF SPII soi I would ask a Mitsi dealer to be sure
