Can you post a picture of it (scan or photo). Another of hobbies is collecting (some) militaria so I may be able to identify it for you.

I hate to be picky, but could you post a back view too as there are a couple of possibilities as to what exactly it is.

I can tell  you that it's from the first half of the 20th century but with a back view I can tell you much more.  Smiley

It's just what I thought.

It's an Other Ranks (below all Officer Ranks) cap badge from the West Yorkshire Regiment (amalgamated with the East Yorkshire Regiment to form the Prince of Wales' Own Regiment of Yorkshire in (I think) 1968.

It's a wartime economy issue from 1915-1919 when they were issued completely made of brass. Pre and post war the horse would have been in white metal and the scroll in brass (hence my earlier confusion) and would have been worn on the Service Dress Cap (a khaki peaked cap).

I'm sorry to say that it isn't worth very much (probably about a fiver) as these were issued in their thousands. There were many war service battalions raised that would wear this badge.

Brings back some fond memories. I was an insrtructor in the ACF, but got lured away by the glamour of the TA  Roll Eyes (Well they paid better)  Grin Grin
