Hi Paul,
I said to Tom and would drive down to discuss with Phil (Even though it is nearly 160 miles each way for me). His reply was Phil isn't there and to be honest the cost of fuel etc was made the decision for me to just buy another rad (which I got through 24/7 spares in 24 hrs along with all ancillaries).

Confrontation will do no one any good and will probably deteriorate further. As with most people I want a quiet life and you think that someone who comes highly recomended would honour their word.

Mark has kindly offered to be a go between on this. If he's successful then I'll shut up but will never use the guy again (I doubt that would bother him anyway with his attitude). If he's not successful then I will happily sue the guy until the cows come home. My solicitor has all the information and has been put on hold until Mark has tried.
You will see that TinyTim has posted that the guy has proof of posting for the parts he sent out. If this were true why hasn't he chased it or sent me the proof so I can chase it? If it has been sent then I will happily eat humble pie. If hre's unwilling to speak with me (and believe me I have been perfectly civil throughout as I dont do fallouts even being 6'3" and 20 stone as it does no good in the long run). I am now being charged £20 per week storage for the last 5 weeks (6 this week) as my car is taking workshop space.

My concern is that once I start the engine. If it;'s no good is he going to worm his way out of that as well by saying "oh you left it too long to make a claim" or other!

We'll See

Here's a picture of the radiator.

Damage is clearly visible and I'm sure you'll agree that this wasn't caused in transit when the cooling fan wasn't sent with the engine.

Apart from being the wrong rad and engine am I not within my rights to ask for a replacement non damaged rad? Would any of you have accepted this?

Quite right. We wouldn't, you did ask and apparently a replacement radiator was shipped so I would suggest we leave it there for the time being and see what Mark can sort  out over what has happened.

Well after a month it appears that Mark has been stonewalled the same as I was.

I will now start legal proceedings.

Readers. You can draw your own conclusions on this supplier (seeing as he wont even aknowledge an independant trying to assist with this issue)

All I need is his surname if anyone can advise me (In confidence of course)

Sorry to mods as I know your mates with Fils Pajero's. However I'm sure you now appreciate my position and Mark has all my correspondance and can tell you in private how it's been handled.

So what's the consensus on Phil then? This thread's dominated by what appears to be one members bad experience inrterspersed with lots happy campers. He's pretty local to me, which is obviously a bonus, and seemed friendly and full of advice when I spoke to him about my mk1 2.5td this morning.
I'm about to get my engine out and will probably end up going to him for a replacement - has anyone (apart from rayc) had a complete engine from him?

I fitted a rad from him the other day and there was nothing wrong with it (even came with a genuine Mitsy cap) He suffers from the same thing as many of the smaller businesses do — Having to rely on the weird small print of Parcel Force who seem to think that a 24hr service is from when they deem to pick it up to go to their hub and not from when it is sent Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I suspect like many other breakers his word is his bond and he will do his best to get you sorted with what you want and be very honest about condition — you will normally get a 3 month warranty anyway and being on the doorstep you shouldn't have a great problem

Not a complete engine, but he sold me a 2nd hand 2.5 cylinder head (complete). Simply bolted it on and away I went (new gaskets of course).

Fil was helpful, the price was fair and delivery was quick (arrived two days after 'phoning him).

Shit does happen sometimes, it's the law of averages I suppose, but I wouldn't pillory the man for one breakdown of communication with one customer.

IMHO, give him a go.

Dont not use him on my account mate.

I've now got an issue with the injector pump but rather than go back to him I've bought another one.

No breakdown of communication. There's no communication full stop.

Solicitor is dealing with it now (One kind chap from here even tried without any return of calls etc).

I think as long as you dont have a problem or want a warranty or receipt you'll be fine.

As you say many happy people. Maybe I rubbed him up the wrong way asking for the parts I paid for Grin Afro

I just wonder if your issue is with a bad part or maliciousness my friend as you always seem to make a point of trying to slander Fil's Pajeros on this forum every time someone says what a good service he gives.

Could it be your own belligerent attitude that has caused your problem?

Nice try but sorry your wrong. Slander is when you are using hearsay and cant prove it. I,m not using hearsay and I can prove my points (and have to some that have asked to try and intervene for me).

Some people on here have been privvy to the correspondance that went on my friend and even though they tried as independent's to help they got exactly the same response.

As I've said. People are free to make their own choices where they buy from. If the parts are good then great. When something is wrong that's when you see how good any trader is by how they stand by their service. I have made my circumstances known with proof to the people who tried to mediate. Then general concensus was they gave up because they drew a total blank.

I dont do malicious my friend. I speak the truth and have offered for the other party to prove their statements both through independent adjudicators, solicitors and forum members.

People can draw their own conclusions on whether they use this person or not and whether they will get the backup if something fails.

All I have done is make them aware of my problem and I'm afraid if you find that hard to accept there's not a lot I can do.

Please dont try and turn this topic into something personal as it's nothing but an informational post over someone who's had a problem (and others who haven't).

Let's leave it at that please

And I think we will leave it there for the time being - thank you to all that have contributed to this post but further discussion seems futile for the moment.

So - no prejudice or offense to anyone but this thread is now locked  Wink
