Snow -
We don’t get much snow - but when we do, we usually know about it. 4X4s cope with snow better than normal cars, but you still have to know what you’re doing.
For starters, they are heavier and more difficult to stop if they start sliding. Please, don’t be a “I’ve bought a 4x4 and can’t wait to play in the snow” wally. It can be really dangerous stuff and, if you do happen to get stuck and become stranded overnight in sub-zero temperatures, it could even be a life threatening situation.
Check the weather forecast before you set off. Fresh snow is easier to drive than compressed snow, which has been driven by other vehicles and has turned as slippery as ice. But even fresh snow can conceal black ice beneath, which is treacherous.
When driving snow, select the highest gear possible to prevent wheelspin. Select high box and engage diff lock.
Set off using minimum throttle and drive at all times. Keep breaking to a minimum and avoid violent movements of the steering wheel. If the wheel starts to spin, ease off the throttle a bit to help tyres regain traction. If traction is totally lost and the vehicle is slowing down, try turning the steering wheel a little - left and right - to help the front tyre walls find extra grip.

Just an Added bit here whilst on snow.....treat wet grass the same as snow! Only saying that as its that time of year now, and if you find yourself on a grassy wet field, handling will be just as difficult as snow. The slide rules still apply especially if on side slopes!
