Speedo face replacement.
« on: March 30, 2007, 07:46:31 PM »

Here's what you need to know. Straight forward replacement of the speedo face in ten easy steps.  Smiley

1/ Remove the three screws securing the binacle.

2/ The one at the rear of the binacle is best removed using either a cranked or stubby screwdriver.

3/ Remove the three screws securing the instrument cluster to the dash.

4/ Pull the cluster slightly out towards you and systematically remove the electrical connectors, starting from the left hand side.

5/ Remove the cluster from the vehicle and place on a cloth on workbench or table. Remove the 8 screws securing the clear front panel.

6/ Remove the front panel ...........

7/ Followed by the black dial surround.

8/ Using either a trim removal tool or a flat bladed tool, gently remove the speedo needle followed by the two small screws.

9/ Lift out the old speedo face and replace with the new one.

10/ Reassemble in reverse order. Remembering to clean off any finger prints, dust etc before screwing it back together.

Finally replace back in car and check that all electrical connections & the speedometer are functioning correctly.
Have yourself a well deserved Coffee/Tea/Beer.  Wink

Ahh. Well now there's the rub. Having changed them from the KPH ones, I found that the cheap KAK I'd bought from fleabay fro £7.50 were a lot thinner than the originals and let a lot more of the backlight through when the dash lights were on. So the speedo dial was really quite glary compared to the tacho. What you don't see in the photo is that the reverse side has now been treated to some window tint spray, just a couple of coats. End result is they're both the same now.  Smiley Wink

Thinking now of buying some lockwood white ones anyway.  Roll Eyes

Nice one. Worth suggesting that peeps replace the bulbs whilst it's out too - saves taking it all out again later!

Good post as ever - I did the lockwood silver ones a while back - work better than the oems and look nice too.

They suggest using two teaspoons to get the needles on and off ..
