the signal is sent from the gearbox end first. the switch daz could be it take it out if its magnetic thats the one if its not magnetic then could probably be the reverse light switch. Wink

reading about the internet mate i think that its a strong possability that your KMH to MPH converter could be on the blink, everyone is quoteing very similar symptoms as yours.

Not strictly true mate, when i bought my GDI the speedo needle had been pushed to far onto the shaft and was sticking and when id did so the gear bog would not change gear when it was supposed to because the box did not know what speed it was doing, there wasnt an KMH to MPH converter fitted at the time but i have since fitted one, unfortunatly the one i have fitted is causing the speedo to read 10 MPH fast this causes a problem when i am driving at 30 MPH because the speedo is reading 40 MPH so the gearbox dosnt drop down a gear like it is supposed to this then over gears the engine slightly.

The gearbox does take a prompt off the speedo to know what gear it should be in the sensor we are talking about is measuring the final drive RPM.

am i right in saying that where the speedo cable is housed at the gearbox end on cable type models the speed sensor would be fitted in the same place on electronic models as i have found a sensor as described by j.s.autos in that location as the pic i posted earlier in this thread Huh

Not a 100% sure mate

I have the info as to what sensors - but not where they are exactly.

I'll have another look at the CDs
