he's got it done it was the worm drive on the speedo sensor that lost a few of it's teeth and was just stopping as the gearbox side of it couldn't connect with it but its all sorted now and he got a new oil pressure switch fitted at the same time cost him in total £60 so a bit of a bargain really.

Glad to hear that u found n sorted the fault out. not heard of that one before but i do know wot its like to break down (top hose burst - over heatin prob which is now resolved  ) mls from home with the wife n kids in the car. not nice.

I have had the same problem for a while now but have changed the speed sensor with no luck Is it possible it could be the speedo head or the worm drive on the gearbox side

it could be either as they are both electronic.

Hello, the speed sensor is driven by a toothed drive gear in the box, thats the part what plays up,easy to check, the speed sensor sends pulses to the reed switch behind the speedo which converts the signal.

Had the same fault on mine when I first bought it, in the end it was the signal convertor box they had put in behind the dials for conversion to MPH. Removed this and bypassed it, running on new dial plates and I clock distance in kilometres. No problems since.
