I'd like to seen as I'm often out on my own, but it is a bit expensize, when I looked on their site, I think it was only 4 6 stud wheels tho, mines 5 stud. I'l email them and find out if they do and how much for the lot and to post. but my cred card is getting full, I'v just paid my insurance, MOT and TAX are next. Yer your right I would like to see it in action, also what happens when the rope snaps, new rope or can it be repaired. Jamie

Don't like them ? ya think ? Frankly I wouldn't give em the time of day for UK conditions when a good electric winch is the same price. I know what I'd sooner rely on. (as for mud being easy to shift - when its packed into threads and dried solid, its a b@st@rd to get out. Would you want to be p'ing around digging the stuff out with a screwdriver when you really just want to get the car going again) Remember the question was - "what do we think" ?

But you're comparing them like for like and they are two different things. I can see uses and benefits for both. Surely you can too? Here's the bolts that permanently replace the wheel nuts.... Dont think you'll need to do much digging! I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.... I'm right and you're wrong!

I certainly would if they were about half the price! I think they'd be invaluable in certain situations and if you need to go backwards. I wish I'd had a set when I had my little 'problem' a while back!

So get a demountable electric winch that you can fit to front or back Or just carry loads of snatch blocks http://home.off-road.com/~landy/winchback.htmThis from 4xforum.co.za Designed specifically for self recovery, hub capstans bolt directly onto the wheel rims and with a cable attached, the capstan winds up the line and hauls the vehicle out as the wheels spin. To overcome the effect of the axle differential, two capstans must be used simultaneously. Hub capstans can pull a vehicle free in both directions, are lightweight, easy to operate, very effective and are inexpensive. Because only a portion of the wheel nuts secure the capstan, it is not necessary to jack up the vehicle to remove them and therefore a single set can be used by a number of common vehicles.
Yes I'm comparing like for like as the prices are like for like, and that is my point in a nutshell.

A mount for the back of my 4x4, they don't make one and I don't know where they would put it if they could make one. I do like them, but anyway I can't figure out how you can pull a 4x4 out back wards using snatch blocks. Jamie

what do you mean always have done, have you seen these before, coz it's new to me. and also i my Pinin used to die on me, not a land rover. I'v use my winch more that 10min when I lost my 4 wheel drive, we had two goes for over 10mins each in the space of an hour. Jamie Sorry Jamie should have answered this before, hub winches have been used for many years on safari trips I first saw them advertised on this site, http://4xforum.co.za/?showitems&global[mymenu_id]=329 , long before they were advertised as a 'new' product 10 minutes of hard work is the maximum you should run an electric winch for if you want it to last for any length of time It then has to cool before being used again. Land-Rovers are notorious for dying which is the reason for that remark - not sure your pinin would sink to that category My reference to the 3 - 4 minutes use is base on a winch being used at maximum capacity where it will draw well over 400 amps at 12 volts obviously the amperage increases as the battery volts drop.
