Specifically for Pajero ...

Look very carefully for any sign of overheating - (such as the brass showing round the rad cap where it has leaked).

Auto Gearbox
Make sure the gearbox works smotthly on up and downshift once warm and especially that O/D engages properly (at 42 mph) and holds in.

Also check all the 4WD gear works as it should - see info on superselect mechanism ...

Accident Damage
Check that the back door opens cleanly, without creaking or dropping.
Check the angle of the door mounted spare wheel, if it looks 'odd' the vehicle may have been shunted from the back!

Luxury Items
If there are front foglamps fitted, do they work?
Does the climate control, if fitted, work in both front and back?
Do all the electric windows / sunroof work?
Does the compass work?
Is the jack included? On a LWB Pajero it is housed in a compartment under the rear seats, pull the two flaps down to inspect!
On SWB Pajero the jack is housed in a compartment to right of rear when door looking in.
Is the toolkit in the rear door complete?
Is there a rear foglight? ( Not standard in Japan, but required over here)
- Note that this may use one of the rear light bulbs - ask for a demonstration that it works.

If air con / climate control is running do not be alarmed by a small water puddle behind front n/s wheel (and rear o/s wheel for LWB).

For best advice get someone who has owned a Paj for a while to come with you for a look.
