Wandering mouse cursor
« on: June 25, 2007, 08:20:58 AM »

Got a problem with my Toshiba laptop (Satellite M70 Pentium Centrino). A recuring, but intermittent problem has been my mouse cursor getting a mind of its own and wandering across the screen towards the top left hand corner. This only occurs when an exterhal mouse is attached. As soon as you unplug it, the wandering stops. Plug it back in and it sometimes resumes. I sent it back to Toshiba under warranty and they wiped the hard drive and said it was okay.Cheesy Lasted about 2 days and problem started again. Angry I've tried regularly cleaning the drive and also cleaning out the registry, but the problem always returns.

I've also tried turning off the touchpad, but no improvement.

Any one had a similar problem or know of a fix? Starting to Pee me off as it makes graphic work really difficult. Angry Angry

Cheers

Sounds like a dry solder joint on the external mouse connector where this is soldered to a system board.

If you have tried another mouse and it still does it, the problem must be theirs !   Wink

Tried different mice and all three USB ports. Undecided

Wouldn't be so bad if it was happening all the time. Easy to show them at Toshiba.

Thanks anyway Tim

If it's an optical mouse, and you're using it on the wrong sort of mat that can cause it

I'm using an optical mouse on my PC on a flat black mouse matt and my cursor occasionally goes wandering off on it's own!

The mats in the clubshop work well (although I do make em, so I might be a bit biased)

Get another mouse to test... If it does the same then mouse port is faulty Afro

I found applying a small touch of Suer glue to their feet stops them from wandering... Evil
