We have had these two dragons for four and a half years now and appart from one injuring its leg a couple of years ago, they have been fine healthwise. They take a fair bit of looking after intially to set up the vivarium with the correct temperature and humidity etc. We were sold them as two males, so we named them Franky & Louie after the Budweiser lizards. Remember the adverts on TV? .......no? ........oh....... OK then

We were surprised when a couple of years ago they started laying eggs

......hang on, they were supposed to be males

The one on top is Louie and she became very ill last weekend and lost a lot of weight, we thought that we would lose her

Finding a reptile vet is no mean feat and we managed to find one 45 miles away and rushed her there last Thursday for investigation. The vet gave us an estimate of £250 for treatment and warned that she might not survive

......I thought that cars were expensive to maintain..........I mean you can buy a new dragon for £35, but she is part of the family, you know how it is

She stayed in overnight at the vets, who took bloods, gave injections etc. I spoke to the vet the next morning, fearing the worst, but she had survived and had a bath and another couple of injections. We picked her up from the vets last Friday night and paid the £261 bill

Louie has made steady progress this week and we have been giving her drugs by syringe and she has started to eat again. It's back to the vets Saturday afternoon for a check-up, wich will no doubt be another £30+
The vet thinks that after studying the blood test results, she has become so ill because she keeps laying eggs and her calcium level is too low. We always treat their food with special vitamin powder and they have UV lights etc. It looks like she may have to be spayed to stop her laying eggs and useing up all her body calcium. I dread to think how much that little lot will cost
