How do you use the Altimeter?
« on: September 01, 2007, 12:26:21 PM »

Hi Fellas,

I know this is a silly question, BUT how do you use the Altimeter in the 3 gauge pod Huh
I went out to Snowdon last weekend, and was up and down some steep Welsh mountains but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to  read the Altimeter gauge...
Any suggestions...

You need to set it at a known altitude (say by GPS)   Wink

if you dont set it every day you will find yourself at a different height sometimes due to the fact it works on air pressure like a barometer does

i set it at zero driving past Aberdeen harbour one day and the next day as i went past i was at 50mtr below sea level

Think you will find it pretty much useless in the UK.

Apparently Wales highest mountain pass road is 2000ft (600m = 6 on the dial).

Even at the very top of Snowdon (3500ft / 1000m) it will have only moved to 10 on the dial.

But If you decide to take a drive through the hymalayas one weekend you may get it to read 17,000feet! (5600m .... way off the dial!!!)

Not sure on exactly how it should be set - I parked next to the sea and then zeroed it.

You may want to visit one of these roads to test your Altimeter! Afro http://davidgruar.fotopic.net/p26927275.html
